Young rugby players on Walney island will be showing extra Respect on the field this summer.
The Walney Central Under 10's have received a £200 donation from Cumbria Constabulary’s ‘Police Property Fund’ to help towards purchasing a new kit. Their shirts carry the 'Respect' logo, which is a police-led campaign to promote tolerance and consideration to others in a bid to reduce anti-social behaviour.
The Police Property Fund is accumulated from the sale of found and unclaimed property and the sale of some items seized during criminal investigations.
Walney PCSO Gail O'Neill applied for the funding when she learned that the team and their two coaches, Paul Bibby and Dave Bartlett, were trying to raise money for their new kit.
She said: “The money will help the under-tens foster a winning team spirit. The club gives the youngsters the opportunity to have fun, keep safe and enjoy competitive sport. It also teaches them discipline and respect - qualities we trust they will continue to use off the pitch. I am delighted that the application for funding was successful.”
The shirts have been sponsored by John Coward from Advanced Roofing Supplies.
